To improve the operation of trains on our HOm and N layouts, we have looked for robust and practical couplers. Tests with HOm or N couplings manufactured by Microtrains or Dapol were not very positive. The assembly on the wagons is not easy. The pockets (NEM or other) must be glued, which makes the height adjustment difficult and not easily modifiable if we are wrong. We have found products that are easy to install and work very well (according to our experience).
PEHO is a German manufacturer that offers a range of magnetic couplings in N and TT scales, as well as other parts useful to the model maker. The catalog offers more products for the HO, N and HOm (TT) scales. We have selected several items from the catalog. All couplings are to NEM standards and must be mounted on a NEM box. “N” Scale
- NEM pocket to screw under the wagon (if the wagon is not equipped with an NEM box) P/N 401.
- Magnetic couplings single NEM P/N 333.
- Non-magnetic couplings NEM P/N 301. These couplers cannot be uncoupled automatically. They are intended to equip block trains. By design, there is no risk of uncoupling when the train is running.
- Magnetic couplings NEM with 2-pole electrical connection P/N 330. (also available with 4-pole electrical connection, P/N 340).
- Brass cup (to be inserted in the axle bearing box) P/N 011
- Brass cup with conductive wire (to be inserted in the axle bearing box) used as a power socket (avoids installing friction blades on the axles) P/N 021.
“HOm/TT” Scale
- NEM pocket to screw under the wagon (if the wagon is not equipped with an NEM box) P/N 401.
- NEM pocket 5mm longer to screw under the wagon (if the wagon is not equipped with an NEM pocket) P/N 440
- Brass cup (to be inserted in the axle bearing box) P/N 201
- Brass cup with conductive wire (to be inserted in the axle bearing box) used as a power socket (avoids installing friction blades on the axles) P/N 221.
